Biocurcumax™, the inventive product derived through an inventive process as part of process re-engineering. A 100% standardized extract of Turmeric, Biocurcumax™ offers a unique technique and concept to significantly enhance the bioavailability and thus the bioactivity is retained for a longer period at an appreciably higher level as compared to conventional curcumin for enhanced efficacy, safety and usage convenience.
Despite the impressive array of beneficial bioactivities, the bioavailability of curcumin in animals and man remains low. In rodents, curcumin demonstrates poor systemic bioavailability after p.o. dosing which may be related to its inadequate absorption and fast metabolism. Curcumin bioavailability may also be poor in humans as seen from the results of a recent pilot study of a standardized turmeric extract in colorectal cancer patients. Indirect evidence suggests that curcumin is metabolized in the intestinal tract. Curcumin undergoes metabolic O-conjugation to curcumin glucuronide and curcumin sulfate and bioreduction to tetrahydrocurcumin, hexahydrocurcumin and hexahydrocurcuminol in rats and mice in vivo.
Methods to increase the oral bioavailabilty of curcumin are a subject of intense research. The bioavailability of Biocurcumax™ was recently evaluated through a pilot human study. Results of the study indicated that curcumin is absorbed early and retained longer from the Biocurcumax™ composition compared to normal curcumin as well as from curcumin-lecithin-piperine combination. The bioavailability of Biocurcumax™ was 6.93 times more than normal curcumin and 6.3 times more than Curcumin-Lecithin-Piperine formula. |
